On a coal plough encountering abnormal resistance to advance slip occurring between the plough body and the haulage means thereof is utilized to rotate a sprocket that is rotatably mounted on the body and over which the haulage means passes. Said sprocket causes through suitable cam discs within the body the longitudinal oscillation of masses within the body against the action of springs to set up in a shockless manner pulsing forces on the shearing edges of the plough until abnormal resistance is overcome. In a preferred embodiment parallel and aligned masses 6a, 6b are housed in the plough body 1 and are reciprocated against springs 14 extending between the masses and the body by a cam 11a mounted on the shaft 15 of the sprocket over which the haulage means passes, the cam 11a engaging followers 16 associated with the masses 6a, 6b. |
