<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointer position detection apparatus in which appearance during a pointer position check is improved and while suppressing trouble onto function display, a hand position of a pointer including a functional hand can be detected efficiently. <P>SOLUTION: A pointer position detection apparatus comprises a time gear and a function gear which are rotated around the same rotation axis, a function intermediate gear which is rotated while being linked to the function gear, a time detected part which is provided on one circumference of the time gear, a function gear detected part which is provided on the same circumference as the time detected part of the function gear, a function intermediate gear detected part which is provided on the function intermediate gear, first time detection means which detects a state where the time detected part and the function gear detected part are overlapped at a predetermined first time detection position, and function hand detection means which detects a state where the function intermediate gear detected part is located in a function hand detection position at a function hand detection time.
