A weighing apparatus comprising a counterweighted beam 5 pivotally mounted on a column 2 and supporting a carrier to which is attached a load pan 10 and which is guided for parallelogramtype motion by a guide 15 is provided with a tareing device comprising an adjustable tensioning member 25 and at least two springs 30, 31 which are attached to the carrier to effect on the carrier an upward force of a magnitude depending on the positional adjustment of the tension member 25, the springs 30, 31 being so arranged that as the tension of one is increased the tension of the other, or another, is decreased. The tension member 25 which is vertically adjustable on a column 19 by a rotatable threaded spindle 22 is provided with two arms 28, 29 which are arranged in vertical alignment with two arms 14, 13 respectively on the carrier, the arms 28, 14 and 29, 13 being linked by the springs 30, 31 respectively. |
