Heavy duty liquid detergents comprising: (a) water-soluble lower alkanolamine salts of higher alkyl benzene orto luene sulphonic acids, in which the alkyl group has 8-16 carbon atoms. Examples of suitable alkanolamines are given; (b) an organic solubilizing agent or a mixture of solubilizing agents. Sodium and potassium salts of aryl sulphonic acids are specified; (c) certain alkali-metal polyphosphates; (d) fatty acid alkanolamides. Those of C 12-14 fatty acids or C 16-18 unsaturated fatty acids are said to be preferable; (e) sodium carboxymethylcellulose and methylcellulose, and a method of preparation of the said composition comprising, forming a substantially uniform solution in water of the sodium carboxymethylcellulose, methylcellulose, organic solubilizing agent and alkyl benzene or toluene sulphonic acids, then adding the fatty acid alkanolamide in molten form and thoroughly admixing, then adding an aqueous solution of the polyphosphate and then the lower alkanolamine in amounts essential to form the alkanolamine salt of the said alkylbenzene or alkyl toluene sulphonic acids. Other additives which may be included in the composition include ethylene oxide adducts with alkylphenols and with aliphatic alcohols, dyes, optical brighteners, perfumes, bacteriostats, and corrosion inhibitors. |
