<p>An apparatus for installing subsea cables comprises a pipe 1, which may be flexible or substantially stiff and may be of HDPE, arranged telescopically with a tube 2, preferably a rigid J-shaped tube. Pipe 1 and tube 2 are pre-installable in a seabed unit, such as an oil platform or offshore wind turbine foundation. Tube 2 remains substantially stationary and pipe 1 is extractable outwardly from tube 2 so as to be substantially flat on the seabed and to extend through a zone where scour protection is to be applied before passing a cable (29, Figure 9) through tube 2 and pipe 1. There may be a brake 6 for preventing unwanted extraction or retraction of pipe 1, and a handle (14, Figure 3) allowing pipe 1 to be pulled out of tube 2 using a pull-out sling wire (24, Figure 6).</p> |
