The tool has an axial tightening unit i.e. jack, for tightening an elastic articulation in a cylindrical ring (14) of a rear axle (4) to assemble the articulation in the ring by fitting. Positioning pins position the rear axle, and a clamping unit clamps the axle. A linear guide unit is formed by upper and lower guide notches (26, 28) to guide an axially floated tightening sub-assembly along an axis of the articulation. The tightening sub-assembly includes the axial tightening unit as well as a reaction support on the axle. Cross-piece supports (20) are designed to support sides of the axle.
