<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently balance the retention and drainage of water in an electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly of a solid electrolyte fuel cell. <P>SOLUTION: An electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly 12 comprises an electrolyte membrane 18, and an anode 20 and a cathode 22 disposed on opposite sides of the electrolyte membrane 18. The anode 20 and the cathode 22 comprise electrode catalyst layers 28 and 34 mated with the end faces of the electrolyte membrane 18, respectively, and gas diffusion layers 24 and 30, respectively, and intermediate layers 26 and 32 are set between the electrode catalyst layer 28 and the gas diffusion layer 24 and between the electrode catalyst layer 34 and the gas diffusion layer 30, respectively. The product of the seepage pressure of at least one of a laminate composed of the gas diffusion layer 24 and the intermediate layer 26, and a laminate composed of the gas diffusion layer 30 and the intermediate layer 32, and the ion exchange capacity per unit area of the electrolyte membrane is in the range of 25 to 60 kPa μeq/cm<SP POS="POST">2</SP>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
