The first torque acting on a rotor (2) is generated by the movement of waves, and the second torque acting on the rotor is generated by the wave energy converter (1). A desired effective force acting perpendicular to an axis of rotation of the rotor is set by setting the first torque and/or the second torque. The rotational movement of rotor about the rotor axis is largely or completely synchronized with the orbital current generated by the movement of waves, by the targeted setting of the first torque and/or the second torque.
