<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, even when an AC discharge current amount is minimized as much as possible, capable of suppressing an occurrence of an image failure such as sandy image failure due to an abnormal discharge. <P>SOLUTION: Control means 14 for controlling a first power supply S1A and a second power supply S1B is configured to, in an image formation, control the first power supply S1A so as to apply, to a first charging member 2A, a DC voltage for making the surface potential of a photoreceptor 1 by a second charging member 2B reaching a charging processing section on the surface of the photoreceptor 1, into a predetermined charging potential Vd as much as possible.
