The present invention realizes, with respect to an input signal for an actuator controlling a position of a magnetic head, an action that linearly displaces a position without increasing the number of contact points. Provided is a positioning drive system comprising a rotating magnetic disc, a magnetic head slider that hovers above the surface of this magnetic disc and writes data to and reads data from a track provided on the magnetic disc, an actuator that positions the magnetic head slider in the radial direction of the magnetic disc, and an amplifier that supplies electrical power to the actuator in accordance with the input signal and performs a drive operation, wherein by using only one amplifier, with respect to changes in the input voltage, continuous displacement along the entire required operating range is obtained; also provided is an electrothermal actuator drive system that is to be incorporated in a feedback control system and is suitable for high-speed and highly accurate positioning.
