<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retractable writing utensil which can improve the assembly workabilities of a clip supporting plunger. <P>SOLUTION: The retractable writing utensil makes the plunger 30 for an infestation operation be protruded from the window part 12a of a rear shaft peripheral surface and keeps the clip 50 supported by the plunger 30. In the retractable writing utensil which does not have another plunger and another window part at an opposite position in the shaft cylinder diameter direction to the plunger 30, a first guide recess 12c into which the plunger 30 can be inserted from the front is formed at the opposite position in the rear shaft 12.
