A press, particularly for forming metal articles such as nuts and bolts, has a workpieee transfer mechanism comprising a guide 18 along which the workpiece is moved by engagement with a rotatable arm such as la. Four die stations 4a- 4d are provided on a die breast 3 and fed with workpieces along the guide channel 18 by four rotating arms 1a-1d mounted on shafts 2a-2d driven through gearing 5a-5b, 6a-6c and a chain, from the main press drive. Adjacent each die station is a spring-loaded pin 13a- 13d for locating the workpiece as it is pushed into the die by the advancing punch such as 19b, Fig. 2 (not shown). When the workpieces are ejected from the dies they are retained in the guide channel 18 by spring loaded flaps such as 20b, 20c. During the subsequent working stroke of the press ram 23 these flaps are raised by pawls 24b engaging cam plates 25b pivoted to the flaps. The die stations and guide channel may be disposed vertically or at an incline.</p> |
