A heat-curable composition comprises a mixture of a polyglycidyl ether of a polyhydric phenol and a guanamine of the formula <FORM:0969256/C3/1> <FORM:0969256/C3/2> <FORM:0969256/C3/3> or <FORM:0969256/C3/4> where R is a fatty aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing from 4 to 21 carbon atoms and R1 is the divalent hydrocarbon radical of a dimerised unsaturated fatty acid. Specified polyhydric phenols are resorcinol and bis-phenol-A. The compositions may be partially reacted to a stable curable B-stage resin. The examples disclose compositions of epoxy resins derived from bis-phenol-A and epichlorohydrin and: (1) and (3) soya guanamine; (2) soya guanamine and aluminium oxide; (4) a guanamine derived from hydrogenated tallow fatty acids and alumina; (5) a guanamine derived from the mixed C6-C10 acids of coconut oil; (6) hydrogenated tallow guanamine and kaolin; (7) lauroguanamine, kaolin and glass fibres; (8) and (12) a guanamine of formula D in which R is the hydrocarbon residue of dimerised linoleic acids; (9) and (13) a guanamine of formula C where R is C12H25; (10) a guanamine of formula B where R is C18H37; (11) and (14) cocoguanamine and (15), (16) and (17), a guanamine of formula A where R is a C11 alkyl group.ALSO:In Example 17, steel bars are coated with a partially cured mixture of a guanamine of the formula <FORM:0969256/B1-B2/1> where R is a C11 alkyl group and an epoxy resin derived from bis-phenol-A and epichlorohydrin, the coating being cured by heating. |
