The method involves flowing current through upstream switches and downstream switches, which are opened automatically when the current exceeds a predetermined current limit value. The upstream switches are remained closed when a blocking signal is present. An electrical test signal is provided with a predetermined pulse length (Tmin) and reception of a test pulse (PI) for testing connection lines of the downstream switch, where upstream switch signals are in interference with the connecting lines.
