PURPOSE: A device for reducing power consumption of a base station and a method thereof are provided to vary gating rate by the voice quality coefficient. CONSTITUTION: A telephone traffic inspection unit(210) inspects the amount of call usage. A speech quality determination unit(220) decides the voice quality of the base station. A gating rate setting unit(230) establishes the gating rate for determining the transmission cycle of a pilot signal which is radiated from the base station by the amount of call usage. If the communication quality exceeds a reference range, the gating rate setting unit establishes the gating rate. |
