AN IMPROVED PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF CARBAPENEM COMPOUNDS

PURPOSE: An improved method for preparing 2-(substituted mercapto)-1beta-methyl-carbapenem-based antibiotics is provided to crystallize derivatives in the water and to prevent yield loss. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing carbapenem compounds comprises: a step of condensing protected mercapto compound HR_2 with a compound of chemical formula III to isolate a compound of chemical formula II in the water in an amorphous form; and a step of deprotecting the compound of chemical formula II. The reaction solvent is dimethyl formamide, dimethyl aceteamide, or acetonitrile.
