PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain generation of glare at the time of switching shades in a headlight system for a vehicle with a structure changing a light distribution pattern by switching a plurality of shades.

SOLUTION: A shade driving part 29 is structured to move a plurality of shades 12a to 12c independently between a progressing position of a focal plane of a projection lens or in its vicinity and a retracting position not giving an effect to a light distribution pattern. A light distribution pattern determination part 54 determines a light distribution pattern which should be formed at front of a vehicle. A shade control part 58 emits a control signal to the shade driving part 29 to make a new shade corresponding to a light distribution pattern determined by the light distribution pattern determination part 54 move to a progressing position, and to make the shade corresponding to the light distribution pattern before the determination proceeded move to a retracting position. The shade control part 58 controlls so as to prevent leaking light from an area in which light should be shielded by the new shade at the time of replacing an old shade to a new shade.
