Diagnosis and monitoring of inflammation, ischemia and appendicitis

Provided is a method of diagnosing or monitoring inflammation in an animal comprising: (a) determining the quantity of cysteinylated albumin present in a sample of a body fluid of the animal, wherein the body fluid is blood, serum or plasma; and (b) determining if the quantity of the cysteinylated albumin is significantly altered compared to its level in the same body fluid from normal animals to determine if inflammation is present. Further provided are antibodies and aptamers for practising the method.
