PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner and an image forming apparatus which form a high quality image. SOLUTION: The optical scanner 5 deflectively scans a laser beam radiated from a light source 10 by an oscillation mirror 11, and condenses the laser beam toward a photoreceptor 3 by a scanning imaging optical system, and includes a light quantity adjustment means which adjusts the light quantity according to the diameter of the laser beam in a main scanning direction. The light quantity adjustment means expands the diameter of the laser beam and increases a peak light quantity in the state that a light emitting pulse reference width of the laser beam is a fixed width.
