The liquid crystal display device (1) also comprises an illuminance sensor (14) which senses the illuminance at the liquid crystal display surface of a liquid crystal panel (2) and a CS driver (8) which applies a voltage to the storage capacitor in accordance with the illuminance sensed by the illuminance sensor (14).
