A wheelchair driving apparatus includes a driving rod 50 pivoted about the axle 201 of each wheel 20. The rod 50 extends beyond the rim of the wheel 20, and is fitted with a handle 501, a hand brake 61, and a brake module 60. The brake module (60) comprises left and right arms (601) positioned either side of the wheel 20 and provided with brake shoes (602). In use, users can release the brake (60) on each wheel 20 allowing the rod 50 to swing, or fix the brake (60) to the wheel 20 and, using the rod 50, drive the wheel 20 forward or backward. The wheelchair may be fitted with a fender 70 to prevent any part of the user engaging with the moving wheel 20, and to serve as a mudguard. When not in use, the driving rod 50 may be secured to a latch 71 installed at the end of the fender. |
