A flooring unit (10) for a flooring structure generally comprises a floor segment defining a connecting formation along at least one side thereof for operatively interlocking with a complementary connecting formation of an adjacent flooring unit in a configuration wherein the interlocked formations define a channel (206) for operatively holding wires (208). The flooring units may generally be planar and substantially rectangular in configuration but may also include ramp flooring units (50) wherein one end thereof is elevated in relation to an opposite end thereof. The connecting formation may comprise a tongue formation (18) which extends outwardly from the side of the floor segment and substantially parallel with a substrate surface on which the floor segment is supported and the complementary connecting formation may comprise a groove (56) formation for receiving the tongue formation.
