PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a universal head constitution for mounting a plurality of cameras which is simplified and easy to be operated for accurately measuring a distance to a subject, positioned relatively away from a camera apparatus, and a method of performing high-precision range finding while controlling the camera apparatus. SOLUTION: A universal head apparatus for a plurality of camera systems comprises: a first universal head means in which at least one of the plurality of cameras is mounted and the camera can be controlled in a panning direction and a tilting direction; and a second universal head means capable of controlling at least two cameras including the camera mounted in the first universal head means in the panning direction or the tilting direction.
