The method involves executing an order analysis for detection processes of movement sequences of repetitive movements of a winding device (110), an entry unit (120), printing units (130-160), drier (170), an exit unit (180) and end processing device (190) of a processing machine e.g. offset printing machine (100), for retaining respective order spectrums. A number of the sequences during the detection processes and/or a number of the spectrums is averaged. The spectrums are compared with each other under consideration of coherence. The machine is diagnosed based on the comparison. An independent claim is also included for a computing unit for performing a method for diagnosing a machine.
