PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus to perform electric correction of positional deviation, wherein positional deviation is accurately detected while a result of detection is made stable when detecting the positional deviation. SOLUTION: A positional deviation detecting pattern is formed based on image data to which coordinate correction is performed in areas other than a level difference suppressing area 51 without performing the coordinate correction of pixel unit of the image data in a subscanning direction in the level difference suppressing area 51 in a main scanning direction.
