PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejection device suppressing the generation of air bubbles in a liquid in a cap after the inside of the cap is sucked when cleaning a liquid ejection head, and to provide a cleaning method. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer includes: a recording head 19 ejecting ink from each nozzle 22; the cap 24 which is abutted against the recording head 19 so as to surround each nozzle 22 to form a sealed space S between the cap 24 and the recording head 19; a tube pump 34 sucking the inside of the cap 24; a Peltier element 27 cooling the inside of the cap 24; and a control part 39 drive-controlling the tube pump 34 and controlling the energization state to the Peltier element 27. The control part 39 controls the energization state to the Peltier element 27 so that the inside of the cap 24 is cooled after the tube pump 34 is controlled so as to suck the inside of the cap 24, in such a state that the sealed space S is formed by the cap 24.
