PURPOSE: A display device and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent the reduction of display quality in mode switching by generating a mode signal according to the recognition of a 2D or 3D mode. CONSTITUTION: A timing controller(120) receives a first video signal for left eye and a second video signal for right eye by synchronizing with a first control signal in a 3D mode and receives a 2D image signal by synchronizing with a second control signal in a 2D mode. A data driving unit(140) converts a first image signal into first data voltage in a 3D mode. A detecting unit(125) determines whether the timing controller is operated in a 3D or 2D mode based on the first and second control signals. A display panel(110) displays a 2D image corresponding to the data voltage in a 2D mode.
