PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyimide film which is low in friction coefficient, is excellent in handleability, and is less in the number of protrusions, and to provide a method for producing the polyimide film. SOLUTION: The polyimide film is characterized in that protrusions on the film surface are formed of inorganic particles having the average particle diameter of 0.01-1 μm and the distribution range of the number of particles of (average particle diameter)×0.7 to (average particle diameter)×1.3, and the number of the protrusions is 1×10<SP>2</SP>to 1×10<SP>6</SP>pieces/mm<SP>2</SP>.
