1307999 Finishing textiles RIMAR SpA 19 March 1970 [20 March 1969] 13343/70 Heading D1P A process for the application of finishing agents dissolved and/or dispersed in a polar organic solvents to knitted material comprises (i) pre-washing the knitted material with an apolar organic solvent, (ii) removal of solvent from the prewashed material (iii) treating the material with a solution and/or dispersion of the finishing agent and (iv) drying the material in a hot-air stream at 40-110‹C for 10-40 mins. Examples of the finishing agents used are polymers containing perfluorinated chains to impart oil-repellent characteristics, polyisocyanates to impart non-shrinking characteristics, softening agents anti-static agents and products capable of condensation at the time they are applied e.g. urea formaldehyde hexamethylol melamine-stearoyl chloride. The material made of natural or synthetic fibres e.g. wool, acrylic and cotton is preferably prewashed with a chlorinated apolar solvent 5-15 times the weight of the knitted material in two stages at different speeds. The solvent is removed in two stages by centrifuging at different speeds. The ratio by weight of the finishing solution and/or dispersion to the knitted material may be between 1.2-5:1 and it may be sprayed on the material under pressure. The knitted material may be subjected to a further heat-treatment after drying at 80-150‹C for 5-25 mins. Preferably, the process is completed by deodorizing the treated material, in order to remove last traces of solvent, by circulating an air-stream through the apparatus for 1-4 mins. |
