PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method and a coating apparatus which easily and stably provide a prescribed film thickness and provide the coating film of stable quality in thick film coating in which a wet film thickness exceeds 50μm. SOLUTION: In a gravure coating method coating a gravure roll with a coating liquid, then scraping excessive coating liquid with a doctor blade and coating a base material with the coating liquid. In the coating in which the wet film thickness exceeds 50μm, a doctor angle formed between a line connecting the center axis of a gravure plate with the lowest part of the gravure plate and the doctor blade is within 90 degrees, and a dry nitrogen gas is blown to the lower part of the doctor blade.
