PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proximity sensor that has low directivity for the detecting direction and high detection sensitivity, and to provide a magnetic detector which uses the proximity sensor. SOLUTION: The proximity sensor 13 includes a magnetoresistance effect element including a first free magnetic layer 41, a nonmagnetic layer 42 disposed on the first free magnetic layer 41, and a second free magnetic layer 43 disposed on the nonmagnetic layer 42. In the magnetoresistance effect element, easy axis of magnetization is orientated substantially, in parallel with the direction of the magnetic field applied.
