<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for a secondary battery capable of showing excellent cycle characteristics, and a lithium ion secondary battery using the electrolyte for the secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: The electrolyte for the secondary battery includes a compound, which is a compound having a frame expressed with -(O-C<SB>m</SB>)<SB>n</SB>-O-, having at least one electron attracting group selected from a group of a monovalent electron attracting group (A) combined with a carbon atom, an electron attracting group (B) formed together with two or more carbon atoms in the compound, an electron attracting group (C) wherein -CH<SB>2</SB>- in the compound is replaced, and a monovalent electron attracting group (D) combined with an oxygen atom in the compound.
