PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pencil lead excellent in flexural strength and writing smoothness without change in feeling of writing. SOLUTION: The pencil lead is produced by using at least an extender and a binder as main materials, forming kneaded raw materials in a form of a thin thread, then applying heat-treatment to the product, and forming a thin DLC film on outer peripheral surface of the lead.
