The cooling of a hot fluid is effecting using a heat exchanger (11) adapted to receive the hot fluid and liquid coolant for cooling the hot fluid such that the liquid coolant is vapourized. A turbine (12), having an output shaft (19) connected to a fan (18), is responsive to vapourized coolant which expands in the turbine (12) for driving the fan (18) to move a mass of air, and produce vapourized coolant. A condenser (13) receives the expanded vapourized coolant and is responsive to air blown by the fan (18), for condensing the expanded vapourized coolant thereby cooling the same producing coolant condensate which is then returned to the heat exchanger (11). <IMAGE>
