PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical range finder continuing range finding operation while protecting human eyes.SOLUTION: As a range finding mode, a safety mode and a high-precision mode are provided. The safety mode is a mode corresponding to class 1 of "safety standard for laser products" (JIS C 6802), where an exposure radiation level becomes smaller than the maximum permissible exposure level MPE. Contrarily, the high-precision mode is a mode corresponding to class 3R of the safety standard, where for example a laser projection frequency is increased as compared with that of the safety mode and scanning amplitude is reduced to set the exposure radiation level higher than the maximum permissible exposure level. In this case, when it is detected that human eyes are located at close range according to distance data and reflection light quantity data obtained by the range finding operation, radiation of laser beams by the high-precision mode is stopped and laser beams are radiated in the safety mode. |
