The present invention provides improved tests for the detection of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The tests are particularly useful for eliminating false positive results due to the presence of a mixed bacterial population in patient samples and are based on the detection of only a mecA gene and an SCCmec right extremity junction without detecting a further S. aureus specific marker. |
