PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a red phosphor with improved afterglow characteristics, a method for manufacturing the same, a phosphor-containing composition and a light-emitting device using the phosphor, and an image display and a lighting apparatus using the light-emitting device.

SOLUTION: The phosphor contains Eu and Tm as activator elements, and the host crystal composition thereof is represented by the following formula [I]: M2Si5N8, wherein M is an alkaline earth metal element. The phosphor contains an element selected from the group consisting of Li and Zn.
