<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently form deformed portions for reinforcement in a core material to be embedded in a trim member and sufficiently secure the rigidity of the core material by the deformed portions for reinforcement. <P>SOLUTION: In a slit forming step, slitter rollers 30 form slits extending across the width of a metal strip 28, at prescribed intervals in the longitudinal direction, thereby forming core pieces. In a subsequent rolling step, reduction rollers 31 roll the portions of the metal strip 28 where no slit is formed so as to elongate the slits in the longitudinal direction, thereby forming spatial portions. By this way, a primary core material 14A having the core pieces and spatial portions is formed. Then, in a deformed portion forming step, deformed portion forming rollers 33 repetitively form convex transformed portions and concave transformed portions for reinforcement extending across the width of the primary core material 14A, alternately in the longitudinal direction.
