CO2 separator for a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC)

A membrane (100) is disposed over the opening of a housing, and having an inside surface that faces the interior of the housing. The membrane has multiple diffusion channels that extend from the inside surface to the outside surface, and each having a mean diameter at the outside surface that is at least about three-times greater than the mean diameter at the inside surface. The inside and outside surfaces of the membrane, and the inner surfaces of the diffusion channels are hydrophobic. An independent claim is also included for a method of separating carbon dioxide from water from an anode effluent of fuel cell stack.
