PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for using a player application to control a DVD navigator program and for using a simplified and uniform user interface.

SOLUTION: An improved playback control method comprises selectively causing an API to generate a bookmark including the current state of a multimedia navigator program with respect to a multimedia content playback process and providing the bookmark to the multimedia player application. The method comprises allowing a player application to more precisely 'bookmark' locations during playback, and later resuming playback at the selected bookmarked locations.
