The invention comprises organosilicon compounds which are (1) silanes of the formula R3-xXxSi(CH2)mO(CH2)nCN where R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical free from aliphatic unsaturation, X is chlorine or bromine or an alkoxy radical having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, x is 0, 1, 2 or 3, m is 3 to 18 and n is 2 to 17; and (2) siloxanes having the unit formula <FORM:0809313/IV (a)/1> where z is 0, 1 or 2; and (3) copolymers consisting of the units defined in (2) and units of the formula <FORM:0809313/IV (a)/2> where R1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical and r is 0, 1, 2 or 3. The silanes may be prepared by reacting hydrogen silanes R3-x XxSiH with compounds of the formula CH2=CH(CH2)yO(CH2)nCN where y is 1 to 16, in the presence of chloroplatinic acid as catalyst (cf. Specification 804,097). The siloxanes may be prepared by hydrolysis or cohydrolysis of the silanes; or certain polymers may be prepared by reacting a silane of the formula RSiH3 with the CH2=CH(CH2)yO(CH2)nCN compound in the presence of an organic peroxide such that only one of the silane hydrogens is replaced and then hydrolysing the remaining two hydrogen atoms; or a corresponding polysiloxane containing silicon-bonded hydrogen may be reacted with the unsubstituted cyanoalkoxy reactant using chloroplatinic acid as catalyst; and the copolymers may also be prepared by conventional copolymerization methods. The monomers and the liquid polymers can be used as lubricants and hydraulic fluids, and when the monomers contain hydrolysable groups they can be used to render materials water-repellent. The polymers may also be resinous or rubbery, the usual curing agents being used for the rubbers. All the products may be reacted to convert the nitrile group, e.g. to amide or carboxylic groups. The examples describe the preparation of: (1) [3-(2-cyanoethoxy)-propyl] methyldichlorosilane and the analogous compounds Me(iso-PrO)2 Si(CH2)3O(CH2)2CN, Br3Si(CH2)3O(CH2)2CN, MePh(EtO)Si(CH2)3O(CH2)2CN and Me3Si (CH2)3O(CH2)2CN; (2) siloxanes of unit formula OSiMe[(CH2)3O(CH2)2CN], and O1.5Si (CH2)3O(CH2)2CN, and the disiloxane [MePh [NC(CH2)2O(CH2)3]Si]2O; (3) EtCl2Si(CH2)18O (CH2)2CN; (4) MeCl2Si(CH2)3O(CH2)17CN; (5) a copolymer containing the units Me2SiO and OSiMe[CH2)3O(CH2)2CN]; (6) a liquid of average formula Me3SiO[MeSi[(CH2)3O(CH2)2 CN]O]10SiMe3; (7) a copolymer containing the units OSiMe[(CH2)3O(CH2)2CN], ViSiO1.5, MeSi O1.5, ClC6H4MeSiO and C18H37MeSiO; (8) the silane Me2PhSi(CH2)2O(CH2)2CN.
