An information processing apparatus comprises a storage part that stores the content of a digital broadcast for which the number of permitted copies has been set; a write part that writes the content into a piece of external recording media; an IC media reader/writer (150) that reads a piece of IC media (300) and records therein the number of permitted copies for the content in association with an identifier of the content; and a control part that, when the content being copied into the piece of external recording media, determines whether the identifier of the content has been recorded in the piece of IC media (300) and, if so, then controls the write part to write the content into the piece of external recording media (210), while controlling the IC media reader/writer to update the number of permitted copies for the content.
