The system (100) has an input unit (101) e.g. key board, for input of a target location. A determining unit (102) e.g. global positioning system receiver, determines an actual position of a vehicle. An evaluating unit (103) evaluates two driving routes from the actual position to the target location over a predefined target. Another determining unit (104) determines additional fuel consumption on basis of a comparison of the driving routes. A display unit (106) e.g. LCD display screen, displays additional fuel for the predefined target. An independent claim is also included for a method for assisting a driver of a vehicle during navigation in a road network.
