<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arm rest device developing when a slide type vehicle door closes and retracting when the slide type vehicle door opens, stably supporting a load, and eliminating the need of considering the strength of a drive mechanism portion. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The arm rest devices S1, S2 are arranged on the slide type vehicle door R. The arm rest devices S1, S2 includes: arm rest bodies 1 displaced between a developing state and a retracting state; the drive mechanism portions 2 driving the arm rest bodies 1, and moving mechanisms 3, 4, 5 receiving the transmission of power from the drive mechanisms 2 and developing/retracting the arm rest bodies 1. When the vehicle door R is moved to a vehicle rear side to form a getting on/off opening portion, the drive mechanism 2 is arranged on a vehicle front side of the vehicle door R rather than the area where the body on the vehicle rear side and the vehicle door R are superimposed.
