<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode active material with large energy density, high output, small degradation in capacity even under repeated charging/discharging operation, and excellent cycling characteristics; and to provide a secondary battery using the electrode active material. <P>SOLUTION: As shown in a general formula, the electrode active material has a dicyanomethylene group and is mainly constituted of an organic compound having a structure of conjugated quinoid comprising five-membered rings as constitutional units. In the formula, a symbol n denotes an integer not smaller than one, the symbol m is the integer not less than zero, the symbols M<SB>1</SB>, M<SB>7</SB>and M<SB>8</SB>are, for example, bivalent atoms, the symbols R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>, and R<SB>7</SB>to R<SB>12</SB>are hydrogen atoms or optional substituent groups, and the symbols X<SB>1</SB>to X<SB>4</SB>are carbon atoms or nitrogen atoms. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
