PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a lithium nickel composite oxide whose productivity is enhanced in an industrial production step. SOLUTION: In an industrial production step wherein a raw material mixture consisting of a nickel composite oxide and lithium hydroxide, having a bulk density of 0.5 g/ml or more and 2.2 g/ml or less and having a specified thickness of a layer of 40 mm or more before burning is burned, oxygen concentration in an atmosphere is 60 vol% or more, a passing time in the range of 450°C or higher and 650°C or lower does not become lower than that obtained from a formula denoted as passing time (hr)=thickness (mm) before burning×0.0387-1.3477 and maximum temperature in higher than 650°C and 800°C or lower is kept for 4 hours or more.
