The manufacturing process involves extruding a rubber strip (6) from a raw rubber mixture, taking it to a surfacing unit (5) with surfacing roll (4), measuring the height variation of the surface of the tire components already on the drum (1) with a sensor (7), applying the strip, measuring again, reporting the volume of material on the drum by evaluating the data from the sensor, this being relevant for quality monitoring; and completing the tire in the normal way.
