<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder which discharges a document with high visibility on a discharge tray, so as to be easily picked up, and a document reader equipped with the automatic document reader. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image scanner device 10 has an ADF 25. The ADF 25 includes the discharge tray 24 to receive a conveyed document discharged thereon and a second scanner unit 60 disposed to read the conveyed document. The second scanner unit 60 is disposed to partially face the discharge tray 24. In the second scanner unit 60, a recessed portion 11 is formed on a surface facing the side of the discharge tray 24 and at a part including a device front-side end.
