The coil mounting system for an electric motor or generator includes one or more coil teeth 100 for windably receiving a coil for the motor and a back portion (back iron) 150 for attachably receiving a plurality of the coil teeth. The dovetail may be in the form of a V shaped projection 106 which follows the flux paths between the core and the pole. Cut-outs 130 may contain aluminium rods 134 to improve heat dissipation to the stator body. The back iron may be sectional with the poles connecting the adjacent segments and the poles and back iron may be both laminated, the lamination of the back iron being radially staggered. The description additionally discloses magnet mounting, fluid cooling, sealing, rotor position sensing, noise reduction, control electronics mounting and coil layout, control circuitry, traction and suspension control and braking control. |
