PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can save the capacity of an image memory used when average data for respective pixels of line data corresponding to a plurality of lines is derived. SOLUTION: The image reader is constituted such that an average data deriver 28a for deriving average data of respective pixels of line data which is issued from an AFE 27 and which corresponds to N lines derives average data of respective pixels for each 2 lines, and writes the average databased on the derived 2-line line data in a memory area of a RAM 24. Thus, when compared with such a case that all the line data corresponding to N lines are stored in the RAM 24, the capacity of data stored in the RAM 24 can be reduced to nearly half and the memory capacity of the RAM 24 can be saved.
